Wedding at Ylang Ylang Beach Resort Montezuma Costa Rica February 2013

28 Feb IMG_3148

The Ylang Ylang Beach Resort in Montezuma, Costa Rica is wonderful place for a destination wedding. Montezuma itself is a small colorful artist-filled town and it’s just a short walk along the beach back to Ylang Ylang’s secluded bungalows set in lush tropical gardens.
An added bonus is that for me to get to Montezuma from Manuel Antonio on the Central Pacific coast I need to take a speed boat…Awesome!!
The wedding took place in the grounds of the beautiful Ylang Ylang Beach Resort followed by fun photos on the beach and a then the guest returned for an amazing dinner at the Resort.

This beautiful wedding took place at La Fortuna, famous for its stunning views of the Arenal Volcano. Unfortunately the volcano was shrouded in cloud, but no matter – all eyes were on the bride and groom!

A Rainforest Vow Renewal – Rainmaker Costa Rica August 2012

2 Oct

This adventurous couple wanted to celebrate their marriage in the heart of the Costa Rican Rainforest. The couple had done a civil service in the US, but wanted to their wedding memories to be a little more personal and romantic! We conducted the vow renewal ceremony at Rainmaker, just a short drive from Manuel Antonio. This spot by the river is about a 20 minute hike into Rainmaker along rainforest trails. After a change out of hiking gear into wedding attire my soon to be wife, Katharine, conducted the vow renewal. The glorious back drop of the Costa Rican rainforest combined with a wonderfully happy couple made taking photographs easy! Congratulations to you both!

The following photographs are a few of the hike in and a few fun ones that we took on the hike out…I hope you enjoy them!

It’s my wedding next week…so over and out for now!

Trash the Dress – Manuel Antonio Beach, Costa Rica July 2012

7 Aug

This bride and groom decided they wanted something a little different for their wedding photographs. The day after their beautiful hill-top wedding in Manuel Antonio we headed to the beach for a “Trash the Dress” photo session. We got some dramatic photographs against the volcanic rock and fun, romantic shots in the sand, then to the water! We got some gorgeous photographs in the waves, before a big swell came in, look at the 3rd ocean photo! We then returned to their Villa and took some stunning underwater photos, I love the one of the bride floating with the orchids…

Sunset Wedding – La Reserva Manuel Antonio Costa Rica July 2012

2 Aug

A wonderful July wedding set on a Ocean-View hill-top in Manuel Antonio. This wedding was held at Casa Paraiso, one of La Reserva’s fantastic rental homes. The wedding had a wonderful relaxed feel with all the family staying at Casa Paraiso. The ceremony took place just a short walk away down the aisle, under a canopy strung with fresh orchids. The weather was perfect for the ceremony and on queue dramatic clouds gathered for some stunning sunset shots. The Wedding party returned to Casa Feliz for cocktails and the reception dinner.

This beautiful wedding was planned by The Special Events Department at La Reserva in Manuel Antonio, Costa Rica and catered by Ernesto Saavedra from Tamarindo Spice, Manuel Antonio.

My next Blog post will be the amazing Trash the Dress Photo Session that we did the day after the wedding..Awesome!

Nature Photography in the Rainforest, Costa Rica 2012

28 May

Over my years here in Costa Rica I have hiked into the jungle countless times, carrying not much more than my camera and water. This is when I feel alive, creeping along listening out for a rustling of leaves, a “ting” of a glass frog..like a hunter armed with a gentler sort of Canon. I realized that I have not been sharing these photographs of various Costa Rican critters that I have found, this is a collection of photographs I have taken over the last 6 months…and have been meaning to post!

Most of these photos have been taken at Rainmaker; during some amazing adventures with friends and family, hikes with their incredible nature guides, plus several night excursions, the last photo is of me on one of the hanging bridges.

Feliz Lunes!

Costa Rica’s Phosphorescent Waves

24 May

A couple months ago I went to Montezuma, on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica, to photograph a wedding, it was a few days before the full moon and the beach was really light even at 10pm at night. Looking out to the ocean, I could see this electrical charge of light as the large waves crashed against the beach. Certain types of oceanic plankton produce a phosphorescence in a chemical response to the energy produced by the waves movement. This gave me a wonderful light show and a slow shutter speed gave the beach an ethereal effect. Glad I had my camera but I think I would have preferred my surf board!

What would you have preferred your Camera or your Board?!

Thanks for stopping by, have a great weekend. To find out more about what I am up to you can like my Facebook Page “Photography in Costa Rica”

Commitment Ceremony on Montezuma Beach Costa Rica April 2012

8 May

This intimate commitment ceremony took place on the stunning Montezuma Beach. This was my first same-sex ceremony and it could not have been a nicer couple, it was very relaxed – and I am really happy with how the photos came out. Montezuma is one of my favorite parts of this coast as it has a lot of exposed volcanic rock, which makes for some dramatic photos.

This commitment ceremony was organized by the couple they stayed at the Ylang Ylang Beach Resort in Montezuma. Photography by myself, John Williamson. To see more of my work please go to my wedding website www.weddingphotoscostarica.com

Architectural Photography Manuel Antonio Costa Rica 2012

10 Apr

Last month I was working on an architectural photography project of The Pacific Souss Hotel. The hotel is located on the Punta Quepos Headland so has outstanding ocean views and a unique combination of both minimalist and luxurious design.

There are many beautiful hotels in Costa Rica so professional photos are required to enhance their marketing and get the feel of the hotel. Here are a few of the photos…

Good professional photographs can really make a huge difference in your marketing of your hotel, your clients can really feel the essence of a hotel and imagine themselves sitting on the terrace or by the pool watching the sunset and listening to the sounds of the jungle.

Mostly wedding photographs are of people who are celebrating their day, but other beautiful photographs may not contain people at all. These are not photographs that will go onto your wall, but remember to take photographs of the Decor, they will bring great memories in years to come.

These are a few examples of decor from weddings that I have photographed in Costa Rica. I just take the pictures the wedding planners do all the decoration! To see more of my photography work please go to my wedding website www.weddingphotoscostarica.com  I just updated my website with new photos of the 2012 wedding season in Costa Rica..enjoy!
